In the bustling and colorful setting of Moroccan souk
markets Mayalalune found inspiration and rediscovered
her childhood imagination. The spice and dry goods shops, tended by ageless vendors, overflow with bric-a-brac, piled high with a thousand and one delights: rose water, amber, magic lanterns... and the very simple basics that make up the rich Moroccan culinary heritage. Flour, barley, rice, sugar and more are stored in large woven bags adorned with naïve and evocative illustrations that lift a veil on the dazzling mosaic of colors that make of Morocco. This is where the idea came to be.

The graphics that are displayed on the bags are not just there for illustration, they are also expressions of the country's cultural heritage and timeless symbols: stately Atlas lion, majestic argan tree, delicate Souss gazelle, solemn mosque, Arabian horse or Bedouin caravan.

The rich array of motifs is also in a constant state
of evolution, varying by region, uses and periods,
but they all share the same simple and poetic vein.

This is how Mayalalune, well aware of the importance of recycling, came to adopt these sturdy yet lightweight bags, and decided to give them a new life. Re-using that which is no longer useful, to produce an original and unique object.
